Wheel of Life: 10 Categories to Understand Areas of Self Love

The image below shows a traditional Wheel of Life, a tool often used in coaching to help people gain clarity on the direction they want to go in when they’re feeling unsure.

The beauty of the Wheel of Life is that it’s simple, accessible, and adaptable. You can print one from online or sketch it quickly with just a pen and paper. Each “slice” of the wheel usually represents different areas of life.. but the real magic is that you can edit it to focus on what matters most to you.

I personally use the Wheel of Life when I feel lost and today, I want to show you how to use it as a self-love tool. By changing the categories to focus on areas of self-love, you’ll be able to reflect on how much attention you’re giving to each part of yourself.

Here are the 10 categories I recommend, with prompts to guide your reflection:

Self Care (Physical Body)

Nurturing your physical body with good rest, nutrition and movement.

Self Acceptance

Embracing the totality of who your are – dark and light, perfections and imperfections.

Self Compassion

How kind and gentle are you with yourself in harsh/challenging moments?

Emotional Wellbeing

How often do you feel your feels? Can you regulate your emotions? Do you push them down?

Self Expression

Do you use your voice? Do you make time for your desires? How is your creativity?

Boundaries

Do you know and respect your own needs? Are you a yes person? Are you able to say no?

Inner Growth & Mindset

How often do you bring self awareness to yourself? How do you look at things? Do you feel the victim often?

Play & Joy

Are you having fun, pleasure, play? Are you nurturing your inner child? How often do you feel like a kid again?

Connection

Are the relationships around you fulfilling? Do you feel relationships are balanced? Is it safe for you to communicate?

Spiritual Connection

How often do you feel connected to something bigger than yourself? How often do you feel a fish eye lense on the story of your life?

Once you’ve reflected on each category, rate them from 0–10 (0 = least satisfied, 10 = most satisfied). This will give you a visual snapshot of where you’re thriving and where you might want to bring more love and attention.
Try it for yourself, and notice what you discover.

And if you’d like to share your reflections or ask questions, I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
